Student Spotlight: De'Reginald Sanders

De’Reginald Sanders has already made a career of helping others, his background in the Reserves proves just that. But he wanted take it one step further, so he chose to finish his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Limestone.

After graduating from high school in Hartsville SC, he took classes at Florence Darlington Technical College, but then joined the reserves shortly after. He has since spent time in Georgia and Missouri, and is currently an evening student at Limestone College’s Florence Extended Campus site.

Sanders found out about Limestone through another military student. “Someone at my base told me to check it out,” said Sanders. “He had taken classes there and told me all good things about it.” Sanders started at Limestone in January 2015 and loves the family atmosphere that he has found there. He has been able to excel due to smaller class sizes and enjoys building relationships with his professors that know him by name. He loves that he is not just another number in a crowd.

De’Reginald’s favorite thing about Limestone is the compassion and understanding his professors show towards their students. “In October 2015, pretty much the entire state of South Carolina got hit with really bad floods,” said Sanders. “My squad leader in the Reserves called and asked me if I could help out. I immediately went because I would want other people to help me if I was in that situation. I helped evacuate people from their homes in Kingstree, Georgetown, and Conway for a week. My professors were so understanding, and even emailed me while I was gone to make sure I was okay.”

In addition to being a student, Sanders is still in the Reserves serving one week every month, and he works for Dish Network. After graduating from Limestone with a degree in psychology, Sanders wants to get his Master’s Degree in psychology and eventually become a youth counselor. Sanders said, “I am a youth volunteer at a church right now and I love it.”
